Limes are a citrus fruit that are similar to lemons, but with a slightly sweeter and less acidic flavour. They are commonly used in cooking and baking, as well as in drinks and cocktails, to add a sour and acidic flavour. Limes are also a staple in many cuisines, particularly in Latin American, Caribbean, and Asian cooking, where they are used to add flavour to dishes such as guacamole, salsa, curries, and marinades.
There are several varieties of limes, each with its own unique taste and characteristics:
Persian limes: These are the most common type of lime, and they have a thin, green skin and a sour flavour.
Key limes: These limes are smaller and rounder than other varieties, with a thin, yellowish skin. They are more acidic and have a stronger flavour than Persian limes.
Bearss limes: These limes are similar in size and appearance to Persian limes, but they have a milder flavour and are sweeter.
Limes are also known for their high Vitamin C. Additionally, the lime juice and zest can be used as a natural cleaning agent and as a deodoriser.
Please note that as all our citrus are organically grown and handled, they do not undergo fungicide treatment such as conventional fruits, therefore we recommend citrus is stored in your fridge once received to minimise the chance of spoilage.
