This Sauvugnon Blanc comes from the cool, climate, high altitude vineyards of Orange where the grapes are picked in late summer. The bouquet is of fragrant lemongrass and tropical aromas with a refreshing citrus and passionfruit palate.

This Sauvignon Blanc comes from the cool, climate, high altitude vineyards of Orange where the slow ripened grapes are picked at the end of March. It has a tropical pineapple and citrus palate with a light herbaceous character.

While most entry-level wines from this region today are based on Tempranillo (a variety both easier and more profitable to grow), here Garnacha represents 60% of the blend. This Garnacha hails from the sandy, river stone terroir of El Agudo—a 60-year-old plot at Alfaro on Monte Yerga (in Rioja Oriental). The Tempranillo is drawn from a selection of mature vines in Ábalos (high county Rioja Alta), and there is also some Ábalos Graciano, adding freshness and finesse. Puyaubert ferments this wine in a combination of concrete and steel tank, then ages it for six months in concrete and 5,000-litre oak vats. These days, Tom includes a measure of semi-carbonic maceration for extra buoyancy.

This is absolutely outstanding and superb value. The fruit was sourced from a sustainably farmed, grower vineyard in the Omaka sub-region of Marlborough. Hand-harvested into small bins and then whole bunch pressed. Indigenous yeast fermentation; 75% went into two-three year old French oak barrels and the balance to a stainless steel barrel. Bannockburn

1314 Pinot Noir

About the product

This was sourced from the whole gamut of Bannockburn’s Pinot blocks, planted in 1976, 1997 and 2007. And, like last year’s wine, the blend this year also benefits from healthy slug of the estate’s iconic (and certified organic) close-planted vineyards. The fruit was mostly destemmed and includes a measure of whole-bunch (20%) as well as a carbonic element. It was fermented wild and raised with 20% new oak (made from France's prized, and expensive, Tronçais oak).
